This term a group of Year 13 students who study Film and/or Photography have voluntarily been undertaking a filmmaking project through a series of workshops designed to both introduce them to filmmaking techniques, professional equipment, and also give them space to create original work exploring ideas around ‘how the place you’re from shapes who you are’. As both a filmmaker and an educator, I’ve been really impressed by the enthusiasm, insight and positive engagement of the students.

As a former Friesland Sixth Former myself, I was really excited to come back to work in an environment which I know supports individual development and expression. The students I’ve been working with have exemplified these qualities, and their engagement has been impressive, producing great work and creating positive experiences. I’m looking forward to continuing our collaboration as we all work towards producing a short film which will serve as a creative document of this experience!
