AS Levels – Philiosohy & Ethics, Double Award Art & Design
I have always had a love for Art & Design. Being a Friesland student meant the support from the staff at school, inspired me constantly and their enthusiasm and passion for the subject pushed me. I opted to take Double Award Art & Design at Sixth Form as I knew there was nothing I wanted to do more.
I did well at sixth form and I was accepted on to Loughborough University’s Textile Design degree, (Usually you need three years art training at a college) thanks to some hard work and the support of the art staff at Friesland I secured a place a year early.
Loughborough University was a fantastic 4 year experience and taught me so much – giving me so much more than just an academic and creative tuition.
University opens many doors and we often had executives from industry come into the studios to meet us, view our work and give us real life advice and for some students, job opportunities.
It is thanks to my own two children that in 2018 I fell into working in the education sector and discovered a new passion for sharing my love of creating and crafting with others. I run my own creative business part time and I love my role as a Technology technician and often get the chance to help students with their design projects. I enjoy working on small projects 1 to 1 with students and helping them achieve their visions!
What my experience has shown me is the importance of surrounding yourself with people that inspire you and push you – be that a great Art teacher, or a great science
