A Levels: History, English Literature and Chemistry. (2011-2013)

I always knew I wanted to work in TV, and ideally wanted to couple this with my interest in history. My teachers took this and developed it into a passion, encouraging me to pursue it as a degree, knowing this would stand me in good stead in the competitive TV industry… and they were right! During the History A Level course, we studied a number of time periods which gave me a fantastic historical breadth and foundation for my degree. My English and Chemistry teachers similarly equipped me with the writing and problem-solving skills to accompany me throughout my further education.

I went on to read History at Bristol University and loved my time there! Here I focused on Modern History – specialising in genocide and the Second World War. In between my second and third years of university, I took a work experience placement at the BBC in their History department for The One Show, working on developing and making their short films.

After leaving university, I moved to London to pursue a career in television. I’ve worked on a variety of TV scripted shows as an Assistant Director, from EastEnders to Motherland. I’ve since stepped into the world of Factual Entertainment, researching on shows like Fighting for Air, The Great British Dig and The One Show. I currently training to be a Producer and work on developing ideas for potential shows; it involves looking for talent and stories, that are predominantly history-related, and then researching and pitching them to TV channels like the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Amazon. There’s nothing more satisfying than an idea being brought to life on screen. There’s no doubt that I’m where I am today because of the encouragement and teaching at Friesland.
