A Levels: History, French, German & AS Level Maths (2011-2018)

I was at Friesland for seven years, getting A levels in French, German and History, (and AS Maths) and am currently studying modern languages at the University of Southampton.

But before starting University, I decided to do a gap year. My year started off in Dresden, Germany, where I was a guest student at a school for a term, before deciding I liked the city and wanted to stay a bit longer. So, I found a flat to live in and got jobs in a shop selling Christmas decorations, in a restaurant, and as a Segway tour guide. Then after about 8 months living in Dresden, I went on a 2000km solo bike pilgrimage from Aachen in Germany to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain, seeing beautiful countryside and fascinating cities along the way. And finally, in the Summer I worked in an Irish Bar in another part of Germany during a big folk festival and as an au pair in the south of France.

All these amazing experiences were made possible by my French and German abilities and it was the language classes at Friesland which gave me the necessary confidence to go out there and explore these countries. At Friesland, the small class sizes, access to native speakers and constant practice gave me a huge amount of experience in having spontaneous conversations in foreign languages, so I am very grateful for my time there, and the opportunities that it gave me!
