A-Levels in PE, Sociology, Science for Public Understanding, General Studies (2011-2019).

As a Friesland student, my enthusiasm for Sport was immediately nurtured from the day that I started. My journey through the school saw me develop a passion for learning across many subjects and I was fortunate enough to have a brilliant tutor to guide me along the way. Having been encouraged to stay on at sixth form, the staff supported me through what was academically, a tough couple of years. It was this support from those staff, that gave me the confidence to stay on at the sixth form, to continue to work towards my goal of becoming a PE teacher.

For me, university was a huge step. I was the first member of my family to attend and graduate and whilst it led me to the career that I am involved in to this day, it also brought about many experiences and memories which will remain with me for the rest of the my life. From an academic point of view, it was really worth investing in continuing with my education and ensuring that I had the right qualifications to graduate into my chosen career path. That said, the qualifications that it left me with, opened up many doors and has given me the freedom to explore other careers in this sector, should I ever choose to. The social aspect of university allowed me to build friendships with people of varying backgrounds and with whom have gone on to have careers in many diverse and different sectors. By throwing myself into the many extra-curricular opportunities available at university too, I travelled the country representing the university’s rugby first team, competing in national championships and playing against some of the best up and coming players in the country. The social aspect of playing in the rugby team brought about many memories as I’m sure you can imagine…

Whilst I had a strong idea about the path that would take me to my goals, it took some time and consideration to work this out. Often for me, it was a lack of confidence in my own academic ability that was holding me back, something in which my teachers at Friesland refused to let take hold of me and my aspirations.

I was fortunate enough to have the right people guiding me at secondary school, sixth form and at university, which, thanks to certain staff at Friesland School, led to me gaining my first teaching job at the school where it all began. The journey in education continues…
