All students have regular access to a Tutor, the Head and Deputy Heads of Sixth Form, and our emotional health team. We pride ourselves on getting to know each individual student so that we can provide support as and when needed. We are very experienced at signposting resources and agencies that can be accessed beyond Friesland. You will meet with your Tutor for individual mentoring meetings and also spend constructive time with your Tutor Group.

Inclusion

Friesland School is an inclusive school where all students, no matter what their starting point, can thrive across the entire curriculum. All students are entitled to an inspiring education and our skilled staff ensure that individual needs are met and barriers to learning removed.

Our consistent and thoroughly researched lesson structure gives all students the confidence to achieve in all of their lessons, and is backed up by our Pupil Passport system to support teachers meet the needs of individuals.

We have an experienced and dedicated SEND team who care for and support our students with additional needs to succeed at Friesland. We have a strong local reputation for our SEND provision, built up over number of years, which is in no small measure due to the work of this exceptional team.

Our SENCo is Mr Steve Carr, who can be contacted via the school reception team.

PSHE

All students will attend a dedicated PSHE lesson every Friday morning with their Tutors. This is based on topical events and the format can change depending on the activity provided. Students may spend time with their Form Tutor in their tutor groups, attend full year group assemblies in the common room or hear from outside speakers. We also host practical sessions from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services, Universities and Careers experts and organise fun activities such as Macmillan Coffee Mornings, Charity Football matches, Fancy Dress for charity, tutor competitions and quizzes.
