Spanish Summary
Spanish is the second most widely spoken language geographically in the world. From the Iberian Peninsula to the southern most tip of South America; from islands in the Caribbean Sea to every major city in the USA and even over to Equatorial Guinea on the continent of Africa, people communicate, work and go about their daily lives with Spanish as their first language. The popular culture of these countries as well as the cultural history and geography are amongst some of the topics you will explore. From the different regions of Spain and their delicious cuisine to the history of South American dictators and their regimes; from the influence of musicians and film directors in the Spanish speaking world to the history pre-Columbus Latin America, the course offers content for every student’s interests.
The Independent Research project also gives free rein to content covered in this piece of work. You can study whatever you like as long as it has a link to the Hispanic World. As well as the obvious problem solving skills that learning a language develops, you will also develop listening and reading comprehension, fluency in speaking and the ability to summarise texts and sound files in Spanish.
